It's been forever since we had anything to say about the Farrelly Brothers' proposed The Three Stooges biopic. I remember fondly those days when the rumored cast of Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, and Jim Carrey was giving everybody a stiffy just thinking about it. Hey, I have to admit that sounded pretty damn cool at the time. But like most things, it was too good to be true. Production lapsed, and Sean Penn soon dropped out. He was soon followed by Jim Carrey, who proclaimed the project deader than disco.
Well, maybe not, as the film has just found itself a new home at Fox, who plan to ramp up production beginning on March 14th, 2011. None of the actors are said to be attached any longer, but Deadline is reporting that Richard Jenkins(The Visitor) is already locked in to play a nun at the orphanage where the Stoogesgrew up. Seriously? Wowsers. The Farrellys will still be directing, based on the script they wrote alongside Mike Cerrone.
I was never the biggest fan of the Stooges, and my interest in this film had more to do with the sensational casting than the subject matter. I'll be very curious to see who fills the considerable comedic shoes of Larry, Moe, and Curly.
