Viggo Mortensen in talks to join Snow White and the Huntsman
There's been a lot of news lately about Snow White and the Huntsman, Universal's retelling which sees Eric the Huntsman deciding not to kill the princess but instead becomes her protector against the evil queen. Unfortunately most of the talk of the film has been as a side effect of other stories: Tom Hardy leaves the film to pursue Batman and a number of other projects, Charlize Theron rumored to join J. Edgar, and Michael Fassbender joining other major flicks and likely not having time for it. Well now you can add one more extremely positive bit of info as Variety is reporting that Viggo Mortensen is in talks to star.
The A History of Violence star has been mentioned as a possible lead for the adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower, along with Javier Bardem and Christian Bale. Snow White has been set for a December 21st 2012 release.
Of all the Snow White themed flicks currently in production, this gives Universal's film a definite leg up.With Theron presumed to still be in tow as the evil queen, all they need is their Snow White. Variety's story notes that Universal is looking for a "fresher face", similar to Hailee Steinfeld's in True Grit. So expect a relatively unknown actress to get locked down for the part in the very near future.
