Samuel L. Jackson confirms Nick Fury cameo in Thor; testing for a female sidekick in The Avengers

The most common thread amongst the entire Marvel cinematic universe has been Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, the leader of the worldwide peacekeeping organization, SHIELD. He's appeared in both Iron Man flicks, as well as The Incredible Hulk, and will be an essential cog when The Avengers comes out next year. Already slated to appear in Captain America: The First Avenger later this year, Jackson had long been telling us that Fury would not be showing up in Thor, however. Apparently that's now changed.

While hanging out on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Jackson revealed that Fury and his eyepatch will indeed be showing up in both flicks due out this year...

Jackson: In the next month or so, I have to do one day on Thor, and I gotta do another day on Captain America, and in April we start The Avengers — the big deal with everybody. Thor and Captain America are pretty much done, but I haven’t done my part in them yet. I’m just connective tissue for them to join The Avengers.

That's not a lot of time on either set, so it sounds like it'll be another post-credit cameo. I gotta give Marvel credit, because they've made it essential for every single one of us to stay in our seats after the movie until the lights come up and they start sweeping up popcorn from around our feet.

Jackson also notes that he'll be doing screen tests with a number of actresses who will be playing a "sidekick" to Fury in The Avengers.  The Wasp? A new character? Or somebody more comic book conventional like say....Sharon Carter? Not only was she Fury's #2 in SHIELD, but there's the Captain America connection as well.  Sharon Carter is the niece of Peggy Carter, the wartime love interest of Captain America. Peggy is portrayed by Hayley Atwell in The First Avenger. So it makes some sense, don't you think?
