Trailer Time: The Music Never Stopped, starring J.K. Simmons

I don't think I've ever had the chance to see JK Simmons be the lead in any movie, at least not that I can remember. More often than not he's stealing the spotlight away from everybody else with his ability to put his stamp on a character with only a few minutes of screen time. His latest film, The Music Never Stopped, sees JK as the father of a man with a massive brain tumor which affects his ability to remember anything past the 1960s. A new trailer has just been released for it, coming off a lukewarm response it got at Sundance. Check it out below...

The story is based on a case study by Oliver Sacks, who most will recognize as the real life doctor and inspiration for Robin Williams' character in the film Awakenings. I was 13 years old when I first saw that movie, and I remember it being one inspirational piece of work, but even then I recognized the high cheesiness factor. I wonder how it plays now?   This trailer carries a lot of the same themes as Awakenings, with a slew of old rock standards(The Grateful Dead primarily) being the driving force for recovery. To be honest the music isn't my cup of tea but I can deal with it, especially when the cast includes Cara Seymour(Hotel Rwanda) and Julia Ormond. I've never really bought into Lou Taylor Puccin in anything yet, but this might be his best shot to change my mind.

Directed by Jim Kohlberg, The Music Never Stopped is expected to hit theaters on March 4th 2011.
