I had a chance over the weekend to talk to Duncan Jones, director of the upcoming brain bending sci-fi film, Source Code. That interview will be up when the April 1st release date gets a bit nearer, but right off the bat I can tell you that the very fast rising filmmaker has a lot of insights on the science fiction genre as well as what it takes to make a mainstream movie nowadays. Having seen Source Code, I think it's a movie that hits all of the right notes for a number of different audiences. It's got the fast pace and thrills of a Summer actioner, but it's also very intelligent in the way it develops and explains the 'source code' technology. While describing the story as "sci-fi Groundhog Day" is easy, there's a whole lot more than that going on. It's definitely a movie I'll be recommending in a couple of weeks. Oops, spoiled my review.
The first 5 minutes of Source Code have been posted online, which you can check out below. I think after you see this you're going to want to know how this whole story plays out. Oh, and how freaking cute is Michelle Monaghan? Guh.
