Johnny Depp's 21 Jump Street cameo confirmed

When we first learned that Jonah Hill would be heading up a comedic adaptation of the hit 80s teen cop drama, 21 Jump Street, it was inevitable that we'd get a few cameos from the original crew. Hill has been saying he wanted Johnny Depp, who gained teen idol status on the series, to appear for a "hilarious" cameo he'd written. Depp has said he'd be open to it, and now it looks like it's going  to happen, as Coomingsoon.net is confirming his appearance.

The rumors about Depp showing up really started swirling a few weeks ago. For me, cameos like this rarely pay off in the way one would hope, but then again it's not often that the original star is as big as Depp. So maybe this one will work out. I'd still kill to see Holly Robinson or Dustin Nguyen show up. And tell me you wouldn't kirk out if Richard Grieco pulled up in a Ferrari or somethin'.

21 Jump Street just kicked off shooting today, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller(Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) behind the camera. The R-rated flick stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as two cops working undercover trying to pass themselves off as high schoolers. Ice Cube plays their boss, while Brie Larson(The United States of Tara), Rob Riggle(The Hangover), Dave Franco(Superbad), and Jake Johnson are also featured. The script was penned by Michael Bacall(Scott Pilgrim vs. The World).

March 16, 2012 has been set for 21 Jump Street's big screen release.
