Vera Farmiga joins Safe House, starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds

Even though Safe House has been shooting for a bit, when there's an opportunity to add someone like Vera Farmiga(Running Scared) you take it. She's just signed on to star alongside Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds in the film, with Snabba Cash director Daniel Espinosa behind the camera. Reynolds stars as a young intelligence operative who must go on the run with a hardened criminal(Washington) when a bunch of villains destroys the CIA operated safe house he was being hidden in. Farmiga will be playing an operative who will be "overseeing Reynolds' character", according to Deadline.

Safe House marks Espinosa's English-language debut, so the fact he was able to pull in such a high profile cast is extraordinary. Sam Shepard, Brendon Gleeson, Robert Patrick, and Tim McGraw fill out some of the other roles. Not too shabby.

The film is currently shooting in Cape Town, South Africa, which should give it a unique look. David Guggenheim wrote the script, but Terry George(Hotel Rwanda) was brought in to do some rewrites. I'll be interested to see if he adds a bit more local flavor to the draft. Safe House is due to open in theaters on February 10th, 2012!
