Piranha 3D sequel now shooting; cast includes...well, bigger fish

Like it or not, Piranha 3D was a pretty substantial hit last year. Directed by horror maestro, Alexandre Aja(High Tension), the fishy flick scored over $80M and about 200 chewed up, bloody, silicon boobies(and one penis). In fact the film was such a success that a sequel was announced almost immediately. John Gulager, who most might remember from Project Greenlight where his directorial debut Feast was featured, is at the helm for this one. That might scare some folks, but I actually think it's a pretty good idea. Feast is no masterpiece, but it aimed for much the same vibe as Piranha, which is to be big and disgusting while pseudo-celebs get hacked up.

The Weinstein Company has announced that shooting is currently underway on the sequel. This Piranha flick is titled Piranha 3DD, so expect to see even more oversized cans than the last time. The cast is terrible, and I mean that in the best possible way.  Ving Rhames is supposedly in talks to return as Deputy Fallon, who met a most ignoble fate in the first film. Daniel Panabaker(The Crazies), David Koechner(Anchorman), Matt Bush(Adventureland), Chris Zylka(The Amazing Spider-Man) and a bunch of others you've never heard of will make up the latest seafood buffet. Expect there to be some unannounced cameos, because frankly this cast isn't half as fun as last time. I won't get nearly the enjoyment watching Matt Bush get devoured than I did Adam Scott or Jerry O'Connell.

The plot sees the fish, which if you recall weren't fully mature yet(thanks Doc Brown!), taking their talents(and teeth!) to a water park. Do you really need more plot than that? Probably not.

Piranha 3DD is set to open in theaters on November 23rd. Stay out of the water.
