Mark Verheiden to co-write and produce The Dark Tower

Mark Verheiden's name probably isn't going to ring any bells unless you're heavy into comic books or geeky TV shows, which is why I'm excited about this news. Deadline is reporting that Verheiden will now be working alongside Akiva Goldsman in penning The Dark Tower for director Ron Howard. He'll also be serving as an exec-producer.

Verheiden is probably best known for his television writing, having been on the staff of Battlestar Galactica and Heroes, and as a producer on Smallville. He started out in writing comics based on the Aliens and Predator film franchises. He also had one of the best runs on Superman in recent years, at least good enough that I read it on occasion. His feature film work includes scripting Jean-Claude Van Damme's Timecop, as well as The Mask.

This is a solid, smart move to bring in somebody with Verheiden's experience. The Dark Tower is a massive project that will encompass all the areas he excels in: movies, TV, and comics.
