1st look at Pixar's original fairy tale, Brave

Lately it's been like the Brothers Grimm were dug up out of their graves, reanimated, and sent to work in the development arm of every major studio. Everywhere you look it's nothing but fairy tales. Multiple versions of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Hansel and Gretel...it's just ridiculous. So leave it to Pixar to buck the trend by fashioning their own original story, starring their first female protagonist. Doesn't that seem weird that after all these years this is their first? That film is Brave, and it'll be the next one on their list after Cars 2 releases in a couple of months.

Brave has gone through a lot of issues leading up to now. It was originally named The Bear and the Bow, and featured Reese Witherspoon voicing the lead character, a headstrong princess named Merida who longs to be a famous archer, but causes turmoil in her kingdom when she breaks a long standing custom. After putting the film together for years, director Jessica Chapman was fired from the project, and replaced by Mark Andrews. Witherspoon left soon after, being replaced by the equally talented Kelly MacDonald(Intermission).

So the whole thing's been kindof a minefield, but through it all we've been presented a number of images of concept art for the film. But now we have our first actual look at Princess Merida. Check it out below!

If Pixar is showing us this much, I wouldn't be surprised if a trailer was attached to Cars 2.  Brave is set to be released on June 27th 2012!
