Oz the Great and Powerful adds Zach Braff

After showing a ton of promise with 2004's Garden State, Zach Braff sorta fell off the map. He did a couple of other things afterwards, including co-writing and starring in the vastly underrated The Last Kiss a couple of years later. So while he stayed busy, he showed nothing of the burgeoning indie auteur that most expected him to develop into after his debut. After that miserable Jason Bateman comedy, The Ex, I thought maybe he'd stay clear of obviously mainstream stuff for awhile, but instead he's jumping into one of the biggest tentpole flicks in town, as Deadline reports he's just been added to the cast of Oz the Great and Powerful.

The Sam Raimi directed prequel to The Wizard of Oz stars James Franco as a slick traveling magician who gets carried away into a magical land ruled by three sisters. Rachel Weisz is the evil witch Evanoroa; Michelle Williams is the good witch, Glenda; and Mila Kunis is Theodora. Joey King(Ramona and Beezus) just recently signed on to play China Girl, a porcelain child whose family was destroyed by Evanora. As for Braff, he'll play the unappreciated assistant to Franco's character. Hmmm..I sense betrayal already.

Disney plans for the film to be released in March 2013!
