We can argue all day about the credibiliy of 50 Cent as an actor. Ok, no we can't. He's not very good, but hardly the disaster most want to paint him out to be. He had it pretty easy playing himself in Get Rich or Die Tryin', and was ok in Home of the Brave, but there's no excuse for the dreck he's put out ever since. All those bullets he took aren't nearly punishment enough for the horror he inflicted on us in Righteous Kill, and don't even get me started on how awful Things Fall Apart looks. That hasn't stopped the rapper from makin' movies, though. Dude is on a serious hustle right now, coaxing a cool $200M, 10 film deal out of a pair of studios.
The next pic in that package looks to be the biggest by far, as 50 Cent has blackmailed...er, convinced Bruce Willis and Josh Duhamel to sign on to Fire With Fire, a thriller that doesn't just have a straight-to-DVD title, but a straight-to-DVD plot to boot. The film "centers on a fireman in the witness protection program. When he's threatened by the man he plans to testify against, he takes matters into his own hands to save the love of his life." Ugh. Obvious title much? This isn't the first time Willis and Fiddy have teamed up, as the two recently shot the awful looking heist film, Setup.
Maybe there'll be an interesting role reversal with Fiddy as the firefighter and Bruce Willis as the baddie? That might be worth a look.
Lionsgate will be distributing the film, so even though it sounds shitty it will likely be in a theater near you. David Barrett is directing, based on a no doubt exhilarating script by Tom Connor. Production is set to begin next month.
