Craig Robinson, Brendan Fraser, and Matt Dillon get Freaky Deaky

Even though Charles Matthau has directed a handful of films in his career, it's pretty safe to say that he's best known for being the son of Walter Matthau. He even made a small appearance alongside his daddy in 1976's The Bad News Bears. But Matthau's next writing/directing effort is looking to be his most high profile yet, adapting Elmore Leonard's 1988 crime novel, Freaky Deaky. And now he's got an impressive cast to work with, as Variety reports that Craig Robinson, Brendan Fraser, and Matt Dillon will star.

They'll be joining William H. Macy in the film, with Dillon set to topbill as Chris Mankowski, an LAPD bomb squad agent who discovers a plot by two former activist hippies(one played by Fraser) to use their bomb making skills to get cash out of an alcoholic movie mogul(Macy). Craig Robinson will play the mogul's assistant, a former Black Panther turned capitalist.

I don't know enough about Matthau as a director to judge his talents, but there has to be something to the fact that he's been around as long as he has with little credit to show for it. What I do know is that Elmore Leonard adaptations are extremely hit or miss. For every Get Shorty there's a Killshot. Let's hope this one falls into the former category.
