The Rza to play Blind Master, Snake Eyes' mentor in GI Joe: Cobra Strikes

The Rza may have gotten his start as the primary producer and rapper for the Wu-Tang Clan and The Gravediggaz, but where I think he's seen the most growth is in his cinematic pursuits.  He's starred in a number of films, from Derailed to American Gangster, and has tried his hand at directing as  well. I wish he'd get off his ass and release that Bobby Digital movie he made years ago, but I'll settle for his kung fu flick The Man with the Iron Fist. Almost from the very beginning, Rza has used kung fu as a central theme in all of his incarnations, and now he'll get to do it again as part of GI Joe: Cobra Strikes.

Rza(aka Robert Diggs) will be Blind Master, and contrary to the THR report he was not the trainer of Snake Eyes. Hard Master was his actual master, while Blind Master was an affilliate of the Arashikage ninja clan.

In other new recruiting for the GI Joe sequel, DJ Cotrona has signed on to play Flint, chief warrant officer and field leader for team. Cotrona was most recently seen in the cancelled TV series, Detroit 1-8-7, and also with his new co-star Channing Tatum in Dear John

GI Joe: Cobra Strikes is directed by Jon Chu(Step Up 3), and will star Channing Tatum as Duke; Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Roadblock; Ray Park as Snake Eyes; Lee Byung-hun as Storm Shadow, and reportedly Elodie Yung as Jinx.  The film will hit theaters on August 10th, 2012.
