Trailer Time: Brave, Pixar's eye popping fairy tale

Pixar has finally unveiled the trailer to their first original foray into fairy tales, Brave. I've mentioned a couple of times here on the site how the animation for this is unlike anything we've ever seen from Pixar, and I think once you check out the trailer you'll agree....

Breathtaking. The best looking animated film I've seen all year was Rango, and I think Brave possibly looks even better. Part of the reason for the step up in style has to be that Pixar's making a story with actual humans for once rather than talking animals, toys, and cars. But the other reason is that very clearly this is going to be a darker film, and with that has to come a harsher, more realistic image.

Brave was directed by Mark Andrews, and features the voices of Kelly MacDonald(Finding Neverland), Julie Walters, Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Robbie Coltrane, Craig Ferguson, and Kevin McKidd. It's due out in theaters on June 22nd 2012!

PLOT
Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest — and serving as comic relief — are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).
