Sure Shots: Nicole Kidman; The Host; Warner Brothers moves ahead with Green Lantern 2
* Big changes afoot or Lee Daniels' upcoming crime pic, The Paperboy. Based on Pete Dexter's novel, the film follows two brothers, one an underachieving paperboy, the other a newspaper reporter, and their investigation into a years old murder. Matthew McConaughey, Zac Efron, Tobey Maguire, and Sofia Vergara had been set to star until last week when Vergara left due to scheduling conflicts with her hit show, Modern Family. Now Tobey Maguire has dropped out as well. The upside? Vergara is being replaced by Nicole Kidman. How's that for upward momentum? [THR]
* Stephanie Meyer won't have to wait long after her adored Twilight saga leaves theaters for good before she's got another film on the big screen. The Host, her novel about a parasitic alien that takes over the body of a dying girl, has been set a release date of March 29th 2013. Saoirse Ronan will star, with Andrew Niccol(Gattaca) directing.
* A pitiful opening weekend isnt going to stop Warner Brothers from at least trying to make some money off this Green Lantern thing. THR is reporting that the studio isn't at all fazed by the $50M opening plus 65% tumble in week 2, and are full steam ahead on a sequel. This shouldnt come as any surprise as they reportedly had hired Michael Goldenberg, Marc Guggenheim, Marc Green, and Greg Berlanti to start work already with plans for two more flicks shot back to back. Whether or not what those guys wrote is still in effect is yet to be known, although I doubt it considering the icy response to the first film, which they also collaborated on. Martin Campbell has already said he won't be back to direct.
