Ben Foster joins the cast of Ridley Scott's Prometheus

Ridley Scott and Co. had been doinga damn good job of shrouding Prometheus in mystery for months until yesterday's glaring "leak" of the entire plot. Assuming it turns out to be true, we'll be able to stop wondering in what way it connects to his essential sci-fi masterpiece, Alien. One thing that hasn't been so secret is the cast, which is so good nobody in their right mind would try to hide it: Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, Katie Dickey, Sean Harris, Logan Marshall-Green, and Rafe Spall are all shooting the film right now. But apparently somebody got missed in all that, because Joblo says Ben Foster(Alpha Dog, 3:10 to Yuma) is on board as well.

It hasn't been confirmed by anybody just yet, but much like when Pearce was first spotted on set it's likely to be true. Foster is proven to be something of a chameleon talent, able to play many different types of roles effectively. He first came to my attention on the Disney Channel series, Flash Forward(opposite Jewel Staite!), but has been a part of a wide variety of films since. He was the badass big brother in Alpha Dog, and also the crazy partner of Russell Crowe in the western 3:10 to Yuma. His most acclaimed performance by far was as a conflicted Casualty Notification Officer in 2009's The Messenger. He most recently played an unbalanced hitman in The Mechanic with Jason Statham.  Foster even has some sci-fi experience from the alien snoozefest, Pandorum. No word on what his role actually will be or if he'll have any extraterrestrials bursting out of his stomach.

Prometheus is due to open on June 8th, 2012. Check out the newly minted synopsis below...

Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.
