I wasn't joking when I put Attack the Block in my top 5 movies of 2011. Director and writer Joe Cornish has done something truly unique with this film, a mash up of sci-fi genres and alien invasion flicks with a gangster twist. There are no heroes in this film. In fact the bulk of the characters in it would be terrible anywhere else. The story follows a South London street gang who must defend their neighborhood form a pack of pitch black, razor fanged creatures. The cast is made up of mostly newcomers, but a few well placed vets like Nick Frost(Hot Fuzz), Jodie Whittaker(Venus), and Luke Treadway(Clash of the Titans) help carry the load. The music cranks, the action is intense, and Cornish knows how to put together a nerve racking horror sequence as well.
