The Michael Jackson estate shops King of Pop biopic
What took them so long? Dude's been dead two whole years already. Maybe the Michael Jackson estate was waiting for the criminal trial of doe eyed Dr. Conrad Murray to conclude before pushing ahead with plans for a biopic on the late King of Pop, and now that it's over they've begun shopping it around. Variety reports that the head of the estate, John Braca, has entered into very early discussions with Ivan Reitman(Ghostbusters) and Tom Pollock of the Montecito Picture Company about a potential film.
To say that Jackson led a controversial life is obviously an understatement, but considering this is coming from his estate you can probably expect the most positive spin on it as possible. The early plan is for the film to only cover portions of his life, and not be an all-encompassing bio. Nobody wants another scandalous TV flick like Man in the Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story. I could care less about how Jackson is presented, and even I thought that VH1 endorsed movie was trashy.
Two years after his death, there doesn't appear to be any slowing down of interest in Jackson's life. The recent concert movie, Michael Jackson's This Is It, is the highest grossing concert movie of all-time, earning over $260M.
