Angelina Jolie to star in Luc Besson's upcoming thriller

The pairing of Angelina Jolie with French filmmaker Luc Besson could be pure magic. He's at his best when making films with strong, charismatic female leads. And she's...well, Angelina Jolie, who pretty much defines strong, charismatic female leads. Both have films on the way which seem to be on the fringes of Academy Award recognition. Her with the controversial Bosnian War film, In the Land of Blood and Honey. Him with the Aung San Suu Kyi political drama, The Lady. Now the two are set to work together for the very first time in Besson's upcoming, untitled thriller which is already being compared to his early works.

Not many details are known but it looks like talks are in place for Jolie to star in the film to begin production as soon as next spring. It's said to be a big dramatic thriller "rooted in true scientific elements", but will bear resemblance to Besson's best films like Leon: The Professional, La Femme Nikita and The Fifth Element. Sounds like Jolie will be doing what she does best, which is kick a little ass. After taking a few years away, Jolie proved in Salt that she's still the most believable(and bankable) female action star out there.

The only question now is time. Jolie has a number of films on her slate, from the Gertrude Bell biopic to the big budget 3D Cleopatra film. It looks like those will now have to wait as this project seems to be taking top priority.

Yeah, I'm pretty jazzed over this. Jolie isn't my favorite actress in the world, but the thought of her working alongside one of my favorite directors in a film that highlights both of their strengths is pretty sweet.
