Grown Ups sucks. I know it made a lot of money, but let's face it, it was just an excuse for Adam Sandler to go on vacation with his famous friends and get paid for it. Apparently watching the increasingly invisible David Spade and former Deuce Bigalow pee in a swimming is what Sandler Comedy now entails. By comparison to Sandler's current stinkpot, the abysmal Jack & Jill, Grown Ups is positively herculean. With the film only having earned about $76M, it's the lowest grossing Sandler flick in twelve years, and I can smell a whiff of desperation. Even Just Go With It made over $200M, even though people showed up not to see Sandler but Brooklyn Decker's amazing rack.
Variety reports that a sequel to Grown Ups is in the works, with original writer Fred Wolf hired back to get crackin' on the script. No deal is in place yet for anybody to return, but let's face it....they'll be back. All of them. Because if they don't come back, we'll be forced to see Sandler force feed us his B-league friends like Nick Swardson and Adam Covert. No f**king thank you. And what if only Chris Rock turns it down? Would they just replace him with Tim Meadows and hope nobody notices?(in a word: "Yes")
Surprisingly, this will be the first time Sandler's made a sequel to any of his films. I can't believe nobody made a Nine Crazy Nights. This is how far Sandler's stock has fallen, with studios forced to rehash his biggest hit just to keep him relevant.
