Trailer Time: 'Men in Black III', starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones
If there's a reason for optimism in the new full length trailer for Men in Black III, released today by Columbia Pictures, it's that Josh Brolin's impersonation of Tommy Lee Jones as Agent K is stone cold perfect. Even better than his George W. Bush. Otherwise the film looks a little outdated and uneven, which shouldn't come as a surprise considering all of the script problems director Barry Sonnenfeld experienced along the way.
The only thing that truly matters is the presence of Will Smith as Agent J. As long as he's committed, which he appears to be in this footage, then there's no doubt the film will be a hit. The story has Agent K(Jones) being killed, and Agent J going back to 1969 to save him. There he encounters a younger version of K(Brolin), discovers long held secrets of the Men in Black organization(including Alice Eve as a younger version of Emma Thompson), and must fight to get back to the present within 24 hours. After getting a glimpse of him on set, we finally see some footage of Bill Hader as pop art icon, Andy Warhol, who as it turns out is living an even weirder double life than anybody would've thought. For some reason we still haven't seen anything of the primary villain, played by Jemaine Clement(Flight of the Conchords).
Does Men in Black have any juice left in the tank? The previous film did well by box office standards, but it was mostly considered to be a critical failure, and the long gap between movies has to hurt some of its audience, who grew tired of the Austin Powers 1960s spoof stuff years ago and may not want to see it revisited in a sci-fi comedy. Overall, while it looks old, Men in Black III will probably be just goofy enough to satisfy when it opens on May 25th. Check out the trailer below....
