'Trollhunter' director to take on adaptation of 'Carpe Demon: Adventures Of A Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom'

As the "found footage" genre begins to make the serious turn into relevance, with two top notch films this year alone in Project X and Chronicle, I can't help but look back a little at what began the sudden change. One of those movies that used the style perfectly was Trollhunter, a Norwegian mock documentary about a group of college students tracking the creatures. Directed by André Øvredal, the film turned out to be an international hit, and didn't do too badly here, either.

Riding the wave of European filmmakers jumping to big Hollywood productions, Øvredal is set to direct an adaptation of Julie Kenner's 2005 novel, Carpe Demon: Adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom. The first of a five book series(so far), it's basically like Buffy the Vampire Slayer grown up, following a suburban house wife and mother who must return to her monster fighting roots when evil attacks her neighborhood.

Chris Columbus is producing, which gives me some pause since his movies are always so damn generic. His involvement makes sense considering he picked up the rights to the Trollhunter remake. Still, I like the sound of this, and Øvredal is a director who has a lot of potential. [Moviehole]
