Two new clips from 'Jeff, Who Lives at Home', starring Ed Helms and Jason Segel
The Duplass Brothers, Jay and Mark, have made their brand of quirky, insightful human comedies into a little cottage industry. Starting out small with indie talkers like The Puffy Chair and Baghead, their style has stretched even into the films they simply appear in, such as 2009's bro-mance comedy, Humpday. As they've grown in popularity, their films have been able to attract bigger names, making for a weird synthesis where celebrity status meets small budget aesthetic where exploration of interpersonal relationships is the priority. Mark Duplass in particular has been on a roll, with three movies(Black Rock, Safety Not Guaranteed, Your Sister's Sister) all earning rave reviews on the festival circuit.
If 2010's Cyrus(starring John C. Reilly and Jonah Hill) was the beginning of the Duplass Brothers emerging as recognized creative force, then Jeff, Who Lives At Home is the next step in that direction. This time they've snagged the talents of Jason Segel, Ed Helms, Judy Greer, and Susan Sarandon in the story of a destiny seeking pothead(Segel) who lives in his mom's house. Reconnecting with his aggressive, selfish, married brother(Helms) caught in the grip of a midlife crisis, the two set out to spy on his wife and discover something that sets them on the most unpredictable day of their lives.
Two new clips from the film have been released ahead of it's March 16th opening, and they're a pretty good representation of the tone. I had a chance to see the film a few days ago, and while it certainly has all the feeling of a Duplass effort, the script didn't seem to be up their usual standards....[ComingSoon/Yahoo!]
