Zoe Saldana joins Christian Bale in 'Out of the Furnace'
Everything is getting compared to No Country for Old Men lately. Weird, since that film was so unique in a lot of ways. It makes sense for The Counselor to be mentioned in the same sentence, since that film was written by Cormac McCarthy, who wrote the novel the Coen Brothers movie was based on. But part of me has a hard time believe that Out of the Furnace, which is being directed by Crazy Heart's Scott Cooper, fits into the same category. We shall see, but the cast being put together for it is very impressive.
In early talks to join Christian Bale in the crime tale set in 1986 Indiana is Zoe Saldana, currently filming the Star Trek sequel for JJ Abrams. She'll play the ex-wife of Bale's character, an ex-con named Slim recently released from prison with the hope of marrying his girlfriend, but finds himself instead seeking vengeance on those who murdered his brother. The story is based on Brad Inglesby's Black List script from four years ago titled The Low Dweller. Robert Duvall is being eyed to play Bale's uncle, with Viggo Mortensen potentially as the bad guy.
A number of talented actors are being eyed for the role of Bale's brother, including Garrett Hedlund, Channing Tatum, and Taylor Kitsch. With Bale taking on two Terrence Malick films this year, production is currently set for late spring, even though there has been no official greenlight. [Variety]
