Hilarious new red band trailer for 'The Watch', formerly 'Neighborhood Watch'!
In the wake of the country being split apart thanks to the whole Trayvon Martin case, Fox decided to cover their asses by pulling certain ads for Neighborhood Watch, a new comedy starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade. In the yanked spot, the guys are seen cruising down the street of their community, serving their roles as neighborhood watch officers, specifically targeting the local kids. Well, Fox wasn't done tinkering with the film in order to avoid controversy, as they've retitled it as simply The Watch. Ugh. Sounds like it should be endorsed by Seiko.
So despite the boring title the latest red band trailer is simply hilarious. Not only do we get to see these chummy comedic heavyweights bouncing crude comments off one another, but their chemistry is apparent right away. I thought that Ayoade, a Brit comic and director of Submarine, might be the square peg but he seems to fit right in. We even get a welcome cameo by perpetual drill sergeant, R. Lee Ermey(Full Metal Jacket). The conversation they have about him afterwards is fantastic, and has the fingerprints of writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg all over it.
As good as this trailer is, there's potential for the film to be even better. We've seen nothing of the great supporting cast, including Rosemarie DeWitt, Billy Crudup(as a possible alien), and Will Forte. The whole sci-fi subplot, which has the guys trying to prevent an alien invasion, doesn't even factor into the equation until the tail end. I can't wait for July 27th to get here.
