Well I don't think anyone saw this coming, although it makes sense in retrospect. Just a few weeks before Paramount was set to hit us with their revamped sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, they've decided to kick the film nine months to March 29th 2013. Why? Well the reason given is so they can convert the film into 3D and boost global sales.
But wait, isn't nine months a long time for a simple conversion? Of course it is, so it has to be something more, and the real reason is that it would have gotten trounced this summer. Even with Jon Chu coming aboard to direct, and adding Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson to the cast, it would have been lost going up against The Amazing Spider-Man, Prometheus, and The Dark Knight Rises. This move ensures it'll have a much smoother ride next year.
So sorry those of you were waiting to watch Channing Tatum get blasted into smithereens in the first five minutes of the film. You can go have a kid or something during the gap. [Deadline]
