Wes Bentley joins 'Chavez', Diego Luna's directorial debut
Diego Luna(Y tu Mama Tambien) making his directorial debut with a biopic on controversial labor rights activist, Cesar E. Chavez? Awesome. Casting the underrated Michael Pena in the lead role? Even better. And now getting a chance to see the next step in Wes Bentley's career resurgence in the same film? I'm sold!
Bentley, who has never lived up to the hype placed on him after his breakout turn in American Beauty, has been making a big comeback of late. Most recently he and his epic beard stole the show in The Hunger Games, and now he'll join Chavez as Jerry Cohen, powerhouse lawyer for the United Farm Workers. Also joining the film are Mark Moses(Mad Men), Jacob Vargas(Sleep Dealer), Michael Cudlitz(Southland), and Yancey Arias. Rosario Dawson was previously cast to play Chavez's right hand woman, Dolores Huerta. America Ferrera will be Helen, Chavez's wife and an important figure in the movement.
Filming is underway in Mexico, so here's hoping we see it in time for Pena to possibly get that Oscar nomination that has eluded him for so long. [Variety]
