Alex Pettyfer joins Lee Daniels' 'The Butler'

Alex Pettyfer is on the verge of being revealed to the public in a major way. In a couple of weeks we'll be seeing more of him than many of us want to in Steven Soderbergh's bare chested stripper flick, Magic Mike. And now he'll get his best chance to shine in a dramatic piece in Lee Daniels' civil rights film, The Butler.

The Butler tells the true life story of Eugene Allen, an African-American who served for more than thirty years as a butler in the White House, where he saw the evolution of the civil rights movement. Forrest Whitaker will play Allen, with Oprah Winfrey as his wife, and David Oyelowo as his young son. Alan Rickman, Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr., Lenny Kravitz, Jane Fonda, and Minka Kelly are confirmed right now as a number of historical figures who crossed Allen's path. Pettyfer will play Thomas Westphall, an important player in Allen's early career. Vanessa Redgrave is said to be circling a role as well.

Obviously, this is a great spot for Pettyfer to be in, and should be good enough to make people forget that horrific Beastly. Filming is expected to begin this summer. [Deadline]
