Ethan Hawke's role in 'Total Recall' revealed? *SPOILERS*

When Ethan Hawke agreed to be a part of the upcoming Total Recall remake way back in May of last year, there was a surprising amount of mystery surrounding the character he'd play. Why would there need to be a reason to hide anything about it? Hawke isn't exactly a game changing addition to the cast or anything, so the only thing that made sense was that his role would be a major departure from the film that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. Turns out that was exactly the case.

Screenrant(via BleedingCool) spoke to producer Toby Jaffe, who basically just laid out exactly why Hawke's role is such a big deal. Beware, beyond this point lie spoilers....

Jaffe: "Not to give away too much, but one of the big differences between the earlier film and this film is that not only do they erase his memory but they change the way he looks, so he has a different face. Ethan plays who he was before they wiped his mind and changed his face"

Definitely a nice little twist, and kind of unexpected. Colin Farrell and Ethan Hawke are two totally different kinds of actors, so the change that takes place, both physically and in terms of personality, is going to be pretty drastic.

Total Recall is directed by Len Wiseman, and stars Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale, Bryan Cranston, Ethan Hawke, John Cho, and Bokeem Woodbine. Look for it to hit theaters on August 3rd.
