Trailer Time: 'Unforgivable', directed by André Téchiné

Amongst the remaining filmmakers in the post-New Wave movement, French director Andre Techine has had a longer, more prolific career than most. He continues to put out compelling, thought provoking films, with 2009's The Girl on the Train being one of his best in my opinion. With his latest thriller, Unforgivable, set to open here next week, an excellent, tension filled trailer has been released.

Starring André Dussollier, Carole Bouquet, and the underrated Melanie Thierry(Babylon A.D.), the film follows Francis, a successful crime writer who moves to Venice to work on his next book. Falling madly in love with Judith, a beautiful ex-model with a mysterious past, the two marry and move in together. Finding his happiness to be a hindrance to his writing, Francis soon begins to obsess over Judith's daily whereabouts, thinking she's having an affair.Things only become more stressful with the arrival of Francis' troubled daughter, Alice, who knows first hand just how dangerous her father can be.

The score is a little overbearing, but I like that the trailer leaves many questions left unanswered. There's the sense that Francis may not be totally in his right mind, and that every character in the film appears to have some sort of hidden motive.  Unforgivable will open in limited release on June 29th....
