The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer have taken on a gargantuan task adapting David Mitchell's sprawling novel, Cloud Atlas. The time-spanning, multi-layered story will feature Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Jim Broadbent, Ben Whishaw, and more playing multiple characters in roles the likes of which we've never seen. For instance, Hugh Grant will play six different villains; Halle Berry will play a 1930s Jewish woman; and that's just the start of it. Set to make its world premier at TIFF 2012, EW has released nearly two dozen images from the film, and a jaw-dropping 6-minute trailer has now been released courtesy of JoBlo.
This will be The Wachowski's first major project in years, and I'm curious to see how the folks in Toronto respond to it. Mitchell's novel is complicated and dense, interweaving multiple story, a ton of characters, and interlocking themes. It's a read that requires your full investment, but it's worth it in the end. Hopefully the film will be as well. Cloud Atlas is expected to hit theaters on October 26th. Check out the plot synopsis, followed by the slideshow and trailer below....
PLOT: The powerful, inspiring epic Cloud Atlas explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.
