Despite starting from very different positions in their careers, both Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan have something to prove. After starring as Harry Potter for a decade, Radcliffe is still trying to show he can be more than that, and he got off to a pretty good start with The Woman in Black. Kazan has been an indie stalwart for years in movies like The Exploding Girl and Meek's Cutoff, but she's rounding the corner into more mainstream stuff with the quirky rom-com, Ruby Sparks. Now she and Radcliffe will get a chance to work together for the first time as part of the indie romantic comedy, The F Word.
Variety reports the two will join the film, based on a script by Elan Mastai(The Samaritan), and directed by Michael Dowse(Take Me Home Tonight). The story will have Radcliffe venturing into the land no guy wants to go, that of the Friend Zone. He'll play a guy who tries to have a successful platonic relationship with a girl he's in love with, with Kazan as the one who has caught his eye. I assume his hope is to end up with her somehow....but...maybe the point is that he lives on happily ever after as just her friend? Who knows?
Dowse doesn't do much for me as a director, but nobody should be able to screw up two such likable and beautiful stars as Kazan and Radcliffe. Mark this as a film I'm looking forward to already. Radcliffe just recently signed on to the lead role in an adaptation of Horns, and will star as Allen Ginsberg in Kill Your Darlings. Kazan not only takes on the title role in Ruby Sparks, opening on July 25th, but she also wrote the script.
