Sure Shots: Ridley Scott; Kimberly Peirce; Terrence Howard
* Ridley Scott and Steve Zaillian have picked up the rights to the 2003 BBC mock documentary, The Day Britain Stopped(watch the whole film here), with plans of adapting it for the big screen. The original film was set in the future and featured a number of high profile Brit celebrities and news fixtures, was set in the near future at a time when the country's transportation infrastructure can't cope with the daily traffic volumes. The film, which is set up at 20th Century Fox, won't be a straight remake and will expand the crisis to a global catastrophe. A writer is being sought to start work on the script. [THR]
* Kimberly Peirce(Boys Don't Cry) is currently hard at work on her Carrie remake, but she's still found time to add another film to her schedule. She's set to direct yet another remake, this time of French thriller With a Friend Like Harry. Prison Break star Wentworth Miller wrote the script, which follows a couple named Michel and Claire, who run into Harry, who claims to be one of Michel's high school classmates. Their chance meeting soon takes a dark turn as Harry becomes obsessed with Michel and Claire, having a profound and damaging effect on their relationship. Miller has been focusing more on his writing since Prison Break ended, as he also wrote the script for Park Chan-Wook's English language debut, Stoker. [Variety]
* Looks like there are some big changes afoot for Arnold Schwarzenegger's upcoming action flick, formerly titled Ten. Now known as Breacher, the latest additions to the cast are Terrence Howard and Dawn Olivieri(House of Lies), joining the recently announced Sam Worthington. Written by Skip Woods(The A-Team) and directed by David Ayer(Harsh Times), the film tracks an elite DEA task force who steal millions from a cartel safe house. Just as they think they've gotten away with the crime, they start getting picked off one by one. Filming is set to begin this October. [THR]
