* If the idea of getting Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master a month early doesn't get you excited, chances are you're at the wrong site. The Weinstein Company has moved the release date up all the way to September 14th. Why? Who knows? Maybe it's to get a jump on the awards season buzz? I don't really care, to be perfectly honest. Taking its place on the October 12th date will be Andrew Dominik's mob thriller Killing Them Softly, starring Brad Pitt.
* Oscar winning writer Dustin Lance Black(Milk) has been brought on to write Earthquake, a natural disaster flick from Universal and produced by J.J. Abrams. Not a remake of the 1974 Charlton Heston film, this one will be something totally different, but since Abrams is involved there are absolutely no details. The project has been kicking around since 2008 when David Seltzer was writing, but clearly that didn't work out. Universal may face some competition from New Line, who are looking at Brad Peyton to direct the earthquake flick, San Andreas 3D. [Deadline]
