Rosie Perez joins Ridley Scott's 'The Counselor'

Back in the 1990s you could barely throw a handful of popcorn without hitting a Rosie Perez movie. She was practically in everything, with her spicy, fiery Puerto Rican attitude often the highlight. I defy you not to love her in Do the Right Thing or White Men Can't Jump. I'd quit basketball for her in a heartbeat, but then again I hate basketball.  Anyway, Perez doesn't work as often as she used to, although I was pleasantly surprised to see her turn up in a recent episode of Nurse Jackie. Now she's joining one of the most eagerly awaited movies of next year in Ridley Scott's The Counselor.

Unfortunately we don't know her role yet, but with an ensemble like this it doesn't really matter. Based on an original script by Cormac McCarthy, the film stars Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, and the recently added Dean Norris(Breaking Bad). Similar in tone to McCarthy's No Country for Old Men, the story centers on the titular lawyer who gets in over his head while looking for a big payday in the drug trade.

Production on The Counselor begins this fall. Perez will be seen next in the public school drama, Won't Back Down(watch the trailer here), alongside Viola Davis and Maggie Gyllenhaal. [Variety]
