Baz Lurhmann's 'The Great Gatsby' pushed back to summer 2013

Seriously, I just gasped so hard at this news that both of my male co-workers asked me if I was alright. Yay, being concerned because I'm a woman! But, no joke, this news makes me overwhelmingly shocked/sad: Baz Lurhmann's The Great Gatsby, originally scheduled for release this Christmas, is now pushed back to summer 2013, according to a Warner Bros. press release issued today. Start your whining now, fangirls, and let me join you.

The biggest reason we can guess for the pushback is to free Leonardo DiCaprio from competing against, well, Leonardo DiCaprio, since he also has a fairly prominent role in Django Unchained, also coming out this Christmas. But could there also be trouble brewing in West Egg? If there is, I guess we'll soon hear of news about reshoots or something. I'm hoping it's not that dire, though, and Warner Bros. is just doing this to cover their butts Leo-wise.

Still: I sigh. Hand me some Kleenex, people.
