Omar Little...*ahem*...Michael K. Williams to join 'Robocop'
Yeah. That's right. The Wire's Omar Little will be ridin' shotgun with Robocop. Hope we survive the experience. THR reports that Michael K. Williams will be saddling up alongside Joel Kinnaman as his cop partner in Jose Padilha's remake, making this the actor's biggest chance for mainstream exposure yet. Do the right thing, America.
MGM has pretty much done everything right in developing the film, which I'm guessing few felt was a good idea a couple of years ago. Rising star Kinnaman will play Alex Murphy, who gets his ass killed and reborn in the body of the cyborg officer, with Williams as his sidekick and close family friend. Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Jay Baruchel, Hugh Laurie, and Jennifer Ehle make up an ensemble that should put Paul Verhoeven's film to shame if the script is up to snuff.
This kinda makes me curious whether Williams' role as Ol' Dirty Bastard in Dirty White Boy is going to happen, but even if it doesn't, this is a damn fine replacement. Robocop begins filming this September for release next year on August 9th.
