Bill Hader rumored for 'Baywatch' lead, but studio denies it

Bill Hader's a fantastic comedic actor, and one of the few reasons why I ever flipped to SNL over the last couple of years. On the big screen he's managed to channel that into some great supporting turns in films like Adventureland and Men in Black 3, but a lead role has continued to elude him. That could be about to change, and unfortunately it's in a film that should have been canned long before now.

Hader will reportedly take on the lead role of Mitch Buchannon in the Baywatch film, yes the same part that has made David Hasselhoff an undeserving international star. Paramount has been trying to adapt the long-running, inexplicably loved TV series for ages, and they took a big step forward recently adding Robert Ben Garant (Reno 911) as director. Garant is actually here at Sundance pushing his feature debut, the horror comedy Hell Baby. It should be noted that Paramount is denying Hader's involvement, so let's just wait and see how this pans out.

The plot sounds as corny as an episode of the series, with the lifeguards discovering a meth lab in a nearby oil rig. Ugh. Hasselhoff will of course make a cameo, because duh, he's Hasselhoff. And Pamela Anderson, who I don't think I've seen since Stacked got cancelled, will also make an appearance.

This sounds pretty horrible, but maybe if Hader does come aboard he'll save the day. Filming begins in April.
