'Man of Steel' to determine the fate of 'Justice League'?
Despite Will Beal having written a script, and rumors running rampant about what a Justice League film would entail, it sounds like Warner Bros. may not be close to giving it the green light. There has been all sorts of shuffling over at the studio of late, and in a story about those recent movies, Variety threw in this little nugget with potentially major implications....
Stakes are high for "Man of Steel." Other than Nolan's Batpics, Warners has not been able to effectively exploit the DC library. Its 2011 "Green Lantern" underperformed, and a "Justice League" film wouldn't likely be in theaters before 2015, as Warner's top brass has indicated that they are awaiting the results of "Man of Steel," which opens June 14, before moving further ahead.
So if Man of Steel bombs, we may not get Justice League at all? That's probably not totally true, but Warner Bros. would certainly start over from scratch with their entire superhero line. At this point we're probably not going to see it until 2016 at the earliest, anyway. There's almost no way they can have it ready by 2015.
But really, does anyone expect Man of Steel to be a total fail? Me neither. Just look at Supes on the cover of Empire. Does that guy look worried?
