Elizabeth Olsen and Bryan Cranston eying 'Godzilla' reboot
Ignoring all of the legal snafus going on in the background, Legendary Pictures is still rolling on with Gareth Edwards' Godzilla reboot. After the phenomenal reaction just the announcement received at last summer's Comic-Con, they aren't going to let a little thing like a couple of upset producers stand in the way. While casting has proven to also be a bit of a hurdle, two more big names have entered the picture.
Variety reports that Bryan Cranton and Elizabeth Olsen are circling roles in the film, which is obviously based on the classic monster known for stomping his way through Tokyo. Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption) is still hammering out a script rewrite, and no deals will be finalized until that part of it is done. When Aaron Johnson was approached for the lead role last month, he stated pretty much the same thing. Caleb Landry Jones, Henry Cavill, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Edwards favorite Scoot McNairy were also in the running, and may still be.
The talents of Cranston and Olsen speak for themselves. Obviously they'd be great additions. He's coming off turns in the Oscar-nominated Argo and the less well-regarded Total Recall. She will be seen next in Spike Lee's Oldboy remake.
Godzilla is slated to open on May 16th 2014.
