Elizabeth Olsen confirms 'Godzilla' role; says film won't be lighthearted

It was only a few days ago that Elizabeth Olsen was said to be circling a role in Gareth Edwards' Godzilla reboot, and last night while attending the BAFTA Awards she was stopped on the red carpet and pressed on the issue. She was there as a nominee for the Rising Star Award, which ultimately went to Juno Temple, but Olsen not only confirmed her Godzilla involvement she went on to describe the film's tone.

Godzilla‘s actually going to be a very heavy drama… it’s definitely going to be a different take on the past Godzillas.

Olsen then went on to tell another outlet that it definitely won't be lighthearted. It sounds like Edwards is going back to the original interpretation, which was more of an allegory for nuclear destruction. Sounds like we won't be getting any MechaGodzilla this time around. Aaron Johnson and Bryan Cranston may be joining her, assuming Frank Darabont's rewrite is up to snuff.

She also mentions her Beat Generation film, Kill Your Darlings, and comments on Daniel Radcliffe's performance as Allen Ginsberg. It's a very good movie, you can find my review of it here.

Godzilla hits theaters on May 16th 2014.  [BAFTA Online/Bleeding Cool]
