Is Yoda the first to get a solo 'Star Wars' spinoff film?
It seems a given that LucasFilm is going to be expanding the Star Wars brand as much as humanly possible, and part of that plan is developing a number of solo films disconnected from the upcoming trilogy. We've already heard rumors of one, which would have been directed by Zack Snyder, but now AICN has word on another one featuring everybody's favorite green Jedi Master.
They say that Yoda is the first of many to receive his own spinoff film, with other prominent characters to follow. I'd have to think that a Yoda film would chronicle his younger years, since nobody wants to see what he was doing all alone in those Dagobah swamps, right? Maybe they can get Frank Oz to come back? Fingers crossed? This might be a good time for us to reach out to Star Wars visual effects dude Nick Maley for some insight.
A Jabba the Hutt film was also mentioned, and Harry Knowles reminded me of Joe Johnston's talk of doing a Boba Fett solo project someday. Johnston has a close a tie to LucasFilm and Kathleen Kennedy as nearly anybody. There's no other info on the Yoda project, so assuming it turns out to be more than a mere rumor, it likely won't hit theaters for a long time. Star Wars: Episode VII is slated for 2015 but may get bumped to the following year.
