Cloud Atlas may have been a box office dud, arguably the biggest and most high-profile of last year, there's still a good deal of anticipation for The Wachowskis' next big sci-fi epic, Jupiter Ascending. Say what you want about Cloud Atlas, it was at least ambitious and immaculately constructed, and chances are they will carry those production values over as filming is slated to begin shortly in London. Already with a cast that includes Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, and Eddie Redmayne, Deadline reports that Sean Bean is the latest to sign on.
The story sounds like a deep space riff on Snow White and the Huntsman, with Kunis playing a poor Russian immigrant who shares the same genetic make-up as the Queen of the Universe. This makes her a target, and the Queen dispatches an assassin to kill her, but he chooses not to and they fall in love, going on the run together. Bean's character is Stinger, described as a "Han Solo-type". I guess that means he gets all the cool, quippy one-liners and will be morally ambiguous or something. Hopefully it also means he shoots first. Then again, this is Sean Bean, who gets killed in every friggin' movie he's in, so chances are he shoots last.
Jupiter Ascending has no release date yet, so until then just enjoy this hilarious Sean Bean "Death Reel", which our friends at ThePlaylist reminded me of. Not only does Bean die a lot, his deaths are pretty spectacular.
