First trailer for 'Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes' with Jessica Biel and Kaya Scodelario
After her brave performance in Andrea Arnold's chilly adaptation of Wuthering Heights, Kaya Scodelario is definitely a star on the rise. Recently signing on to her first blockbuster in Wes Ball's adaptation of The Maze Runner, Scodelario will first be seen in Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes, which debuted at Sundance in January. As it prepares to hit Sundance London next week, the first trailer has also hit the web, and it looks as mystifying as its unusual title.
Directed by Francesca Gregorini (Tanner Hall), the film stars Scodelario as the titular troubled girl who becomes obsessed with her new neighbor (Jessica Biel) who resembles her dead mother. When Emanuel offers to babysit her daughter, she becomes the gatekeeper to a fragile, fictional world. It's a little tough to tell exactly what's going on, but the surreal imagery and haunting score pack a lot of impact. I'll be having nightmares all week of that creepy little girl (she may actually be a living doll) swimming around in my head.
Jimmi Simpson, Alfred Molina, Frances O'Connor, and Aneurin Barnard co-star. Look for it to hit theaters some time this year.
