How much confidence does CBS Films have in The Kings of Summer? Enough to put the coming-of-age comedy up against the powerhouse illusionist thriller, Now You see Me, and there's every reason to think that it may come out smelling like a rose. Debuting at Sundance to nearly universal acclaim, the promising debut by Jordan Vogt-Roberts already has some calling it this year's Moonrise Kingdom. A new trailer has now arrived to help you decide if it's a worthy comparison.
Boasting vast comedic talent in Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, Alison Brie, and Mary Lynn Rajskub, the film nonetheless belongs to the three young leads: Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, and Moises Arias. They're the emotional center of what is a touching, honest, and downright hilarious look at a group of friends attempting to make the leap into manhood. Cutting all ties to their families, they assert their independence by building a cabin in the isolated woods (no, it's not the set up for a horror movie!) where they can live life under their own rules. I referred to it as a "delightful and refreshing" experience in my review, and I think when people go and check it out they will be similarly taken by just how good it is.
The Kings of Summer opens on May 31st.
