New poster and trailer for Ben Wheatley's 'A Field in England'
Even if you weren't exactly thrilled by Ben Wheatley's first three features, Down Terrace, Kill List, or the killer campers comedy Sightseers, there's no denying the director has amassed a loyal following in a very short period of time. His latest film, the "psychedelic" A Field in England, isn't playing at Cannes like Sightseers did last year, but that may be because it already has a fairly ambitious, multi-faceted rollout plan. In the UK the film open in theaters, hit VOD, and be released on DVD/Blu-Ray all on the same day, not to mention airing for free(!!!) on television.
Here in the U.S. we have a little while to wait for our theatrical and VOD release, courtesy of Drafthouse Films, and we've got a new trailer and poster for the film, offering the first footage we've seen of it yet. Starring Brit comic Julian Barratt, Michael Smiley (Kill List), Reece Shearsmith, the film follows a group 17th century English Civil War deserters who are forced by an alchemist to search for a hidden treasure in a vast, magical mushroom field, where they begin to succumb to nightmarish forces.
Look for A Field in England to open later this year, but you can check out Wheatley's Sightseers in theaters right now.
