Spike Lee in Talks to Direct Justin Timberlake in 'Spinning Gold'

If there's one thing that can be said about Spike Lee, it's that he's unpredictable. Few would have expected the guy behind Do the Right Thing and Red Hook Summer to direct an Oldboy remake, and while the jury is still out on that one he's been pushing ahead on his Kickstarter-funded Da Blood of Jesus. And now he may be headed in another unexpected direction, one that could lead him to work alongside Justin Timberlake.

THR reports that Lee is being eyed to direct Spinning Gold, a film Timberlake became attached to back in 2011 and was mostly forgotten about. Timberlake will play legendary record producer Neil Bogart, a fixture in the 1960s and '70s having started Casablanca Records worked with greats such as Curtis Mayfield, Gladys Knight, KISS, and more. Timberlake developed the film with Neil's son Tim, and they'll be attempting to sell it at the American Film Market next month. Having Spike Lee on board wouldn't hurt in that department.

For now, Lee's got Oldboy coming on November 27th, and how that film performs will likely have a major impact on what projects he undertakes in the future.
