First Trailer for 'Repentance' Starring Forest Whitaker, Anthony Mackie, and Sanaa Lathan

Here's one you probably forgot about. A couple of years ago Anthony Mackie and Forest Whitaker agreed to star in the voodoo thriller, Vipaka, from director Philippe Caland. Newly-titled Repentance, the film centered on an author/life coach (Mackie) kidnapped by an unstable client (Whitaker) who proceeds to terrorize his family based on the principles of Karma. Pretty weird, but with a cast that includes Sanaa Lathan, Mike Epps, and Nicole Ari Parker, it certainly had potential to be better than it sounded.

After debuting in Park City earlier this year and opening the Pan African Film Festival, the first trailer for Repentance is here and it promises a somewhat different movie than we're used to seeing this cast in. While the mood is appropriately swampy, and it's pretty sweet to see Whitaker and Mackie matching wits, the trailer seems to give away many of the twists and turns.

Whitaker will be all over the Oscar discussion after a string of high-profile roles this year, but it's probably safe to say he won't get the same reception for Repentance when it opens on February 28th.
