Patrick Swayze's 'Road House' to get Remade by 'XXX' Director Rob Cohen
Before he was a zen surfer/bank robber in Point Break, Patrick Swayze was a zen dive bar bouncer in Road House, undoubtedly his most awesome flick ever. Forget all that Ghost and Dirty Dancing nonsense, Swayze gets down f'real in Road House. Unfortunately, the film falls under the umbrella of remake crazy MGM, and they've just tapped Rob Cohen to direct it.
If the name sounds familiar it's because Cohen has been at the helm of other blockbuster action flicks like The Fast and the Furious, XXX, and Stealth, which kind of makes him a good choice? Kinda? Then again he's coming off the dismal Alex Cross so maybe it's not such a good idea. Michael Stokes already wrote the script which presumably will follow the original's plot closely, minus the bad hair and tight jeans. Swayze played the aforementioned zen bouncer in a small town bar known for its rowdy and very dangerous clientele. Along the way he pisses off the locals, makes out with Kelly Lynch, and kicks a lot of redneck ass while droppin' pearls of wisdom. The film also co-starred Ben Gazzara and Sam Elliott, who would go on to appear together in another cult fave, The Big Lebowski.
Atleast there aren't any plans to acknowledge the terrible 2006 sequel, Road House 2: Last Call (with Johnathan Schaech!?!), so good move there, MGM. But do we really think anyone can properly fill Swayze's shoes? Watch him put the smack down on fools (including pro wrestling legend Terry Funk!) in the clip below.
